The outfit: a gangster thriller with many twists and turns

Thursday 29 December premieres on Sky Cinema Two, at 21:15, (as well as being available via streaming on NOW) the gangster-thriller The outfitdirected in 2022 by the screenwriter Oscar Prize Graham Moorein his directorial debut. The film was premiered during the 72nd edition of Berlin International Film Festival.

Leonard BurlingMark Rylance) is a tailor who, following the Second World War, emigrated to settle in Chicago and work in his shop in the company of his assistant Mable (Zoey Deutch).

The man, who manufactures fine clothes, counts boss Roy Boyle among his customers (Simon Russell Beale), and, for convenience and a quiet life, he grants the gangster, his son Richie (Dylan O’Brien) and his bodyguard Francis (Johnny Flynn) to use their tailoring as a basis for exchanging messages.

Everything goes smoothly until one night Francis brings Ritchie into the shop wounded by a bullet in the stomach, received during an armed confrontation with a rival gang. In addition to treating the boy, Burling will be tasked with hiding a briefcase containing a duplicate of an important audio cassette kept by the FBI and intercepted by OUTFIT, a criminal syndicate created by Al Capone…

While following a theatrical scheme, at least as regards the management of space and time, this film shows a fresh and intelligent script dotted with some clever twists. Mark Rylance’s performance is truly enthralling.
