The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, died Monday to Tuesday night at the age of 65. Officially, the German far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) expressed its sadness at his death.
AfD co-chairman Joerg Meuthen said David Sassoli had died “much too soon”. He stressed that he was a fair president and that his death was a great loss for the European Parliament. On behalf of the AfD delegation in Brussels, he wrote that everyone was very saddened by the death of the politician.
Scandalous words of a German MEP
Internally, AfD members made a completely different opinion. Shocking words were uttered on the WhatsApp group to which MEPs belong.
Finally this dirty pig is gone. An anti-democrat, a disgrace to any parliamentary idea, wrote MEP Nicolaus Fest.
ARD TV got the screenshots with scandalous statements by Festa. AfD leader Joerg Meuthen was shocked by the words of a member of his party.
Such a statement about a colleague who has just died after a serious illness is disturbing, deeply disgusting and unforgivable, ‘he said.
Fest was supposed to delete the chat entry. On Wednesday, he published a post on Facebook in which he made accusations against the deceased.
The image of David Sassoli, the late President of the European Parliament, presented in the statements and obituaries is incomplete, he said.
It’s a pity that screenshots of this internal message have been leaked. Especially political work in a small delegation is based on mutual trust, he added.
