It is an unmissable event at the beginning of September in the North. The city of Lille is preparing to see thousands of “bradeaux” and two million visitors on Saturday and Sunday for its annual braderie. Created in 1523, it is the largest flea market in Europe.
To promote the event, the city of Lille broadcast a video filmed in the city center featuring a Dalida look-alike. To the tune of “Laissez moi danser”, he sings “Laissez moi brader”.
With words adapted to the clearance sale: “Me, I sell pumps and second-hand clothes, lamps, frames, chairs and underpants, I’m waiting for you from Lille and tourists, chic ladies and brave guys, bradeux and Brad Pitt”. Then comes the refrain: “Let me sell off, let me, let me sell off, Boulevard de la Liberté every year. Let me sell off, let me go until the end of the night”.
Uploaded on August 18 on major social networks, the parody video has exceeded 1.2 million views. The communication director of the city of Lille Baptiste Monnot says he is “surprised by such enthusiasm” in 20 minutes. The artist who plays Dalida is called Sandy Sims and is used to playing look-alikes of artists.
If many “bradeux” are likely to have the air of Dalida in the head this weekend, they will be able to try to participate in the largest caterpillar in the world. The record to beat is 3940 people and had been organized in Rouen for the famous Armada. The city of Lille has even planned to call on a commissioner of justice to approve the record it hopes to beat.
