Skirt or trousers? Winter 2023 fashion will no longer ask us to choose: the trend now is to wear both. To be precise: a skirt over trousers. The trend comes directly from two thousand years and conquered the catwalks, from Ferragamo to Giorgio Armanias far as Roberto Cavalli. Burberry proposes the most sought-after version: a set with turtleneck, pleated skirt and trousers, all with polka dots. Lengths and volumes vary: from the long folk skirt by Dsquared2 to the mini by MM6 Maison Margiela. And under? Vinyl leggings, soft oversized pants or baggy jeans, playing on the contrasts of colour, material and silhouette.

The skirt over the trousers is not only a must on the winter catwalks: judging by the latest fashion shows, the trend will keep us company also in the next Spring/Summer 2023 season. So we might as well prepare and study all the tricks for the perfect layering in advance. First of all, it can be declined in a more adult variant by combining colors and fabrics, for a visually coherent and glamorous layered total look. Denim on denim, for example, or focusing on monochrome with a blazer, pleated skirt and coordinated trousers.

Then pay attention to the volumes: the chicest way to wear the trend is with a soft and long skirt at least up to the calf, which reveals the trousers by swinging with every step. Or you can take inspiration from the looks of the retro divas, who wore wide tunics over trousers, replacing the miniskirt with a soft dress. An asymmetrical cut or a maxi slit will enhance the whole, balancing skirt and pants: all you have to do is experiment, letting yourself be inspired by the catwalks!
