What If …? is still a fresh Marvel series, the first three episodes of which are available on the pages of the Disney + platform. Quite recently, we received confirmation that in the first season of this production only heroes from the three phases of the MCU appear, and thus we will not see, for example, Shang-Chi or the Fantastic Four. We know, however, that the characters from the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in the second season announced some time ago. “What If …?”.
Although it might seem that since the second season will include future films, its premiere will take place in a few years at the earliest. It turns out, however, that we can get a continuation of this animated project soon. The producer, Brad Winderbaum, recently gave an interview to Collider, in which he shared very interesting information. “What If …?” could come back in the second season as early as 2022.
“As you probably know, it takes a while to create the animation. We were lucky that the second season was given the green light some time ago, so its premiere may even be next year. We’ll see what happens. Of course, I’m not trying to predict the future, because the world now it looks a bit different. But we want to have annual premieres “ – summed up the producer.
For the record, the first reports on the animated series “What If …?” come from March 2019. The official announcement took place in July 2019, i.e. a year before the premiere of the first season on Disney +. If the Marvel Studios team is already working on the second season, which has been officially announced, the next episodes may actually appear as early as next summer.
Whereas the first season of the animated series “What If …?” closes in nine episodes, and the first three phases of the MCU include more than 20 films, it is possible that also the second season will still focus on already known characters and stories. Such an approach to future episodes would certainly enable the premiere of the second season next year. Who knows, maybe the third season – potentially released in 2023 – would take on such titles as Shang-Chi and Eternals.
This production will present alternative scenarios that could take place in the acting MCU. The protagonists of the series were voiced by actors and actresses known for their acting productions. The cast will therefore include: Hayley Atwell (agent Peggy Carter), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Jeff Goldblum (Grandmaster), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Paul Rudd (Ant -Man), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), and even Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark and Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. Recording vocal lines for the animated version of this character was one of Boseman’s last acting endeavors.
Unfortunately, we will have to wait a little longer for the screening of this production. The Disney + platform will appear in our country only next summer.
