At the beginning of September, we revealed to you that Disney had modified the release schedule of a good number of its projects, and in particular those of Marvel Studios. And among the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series which were subject to modification, we notably found the next series Daredevil: Born Again, whose release date has been postponed to a date still undetermined for the moment. And if the new series centered on the man nicknamed “The Man Without Fear” has recently been talked about again, it is following the declaration of the showrunner of the Netflix series Daredevil, who strongly criticized this decision taken by Disney. We tell you everything.
the new daredevil series
It was in 1964 that Marvel Comics fans were able to discover the character of Daredevil, having been created by one of the dads of the Marvel universe, namely Stan Lee, and by the artist Bill Everett. Real name Matt Murdock, the protagonist, who has the distinction of being blind, has dedicated his life to fighting crime, serving as a lawyer by day and vigilante by night. Since then, this superhero nicknamed “the demon of Hell’s Kitchen” has been entitled to various adaptations. We will think in particular of the film by Marc Steven Johnson released in 2003, in which Daredevil was played by star Ben Affleck.
But in 2015, the Marvel superhero returned to the forefront thanks to Netflix, through a series in which we found actor Charlie Cox in the title role. But after three seasons, Netflix canceled the series in 2018. However, fans were excited to learn that Cox would soon be reprising her rolesince Disney announced last year that a new series following the previous one would soon see the light of day, then titled Daredevil: Born Againand in which we should also see other characters from the Netflix series, such as Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk.
And while the series Daredevil: Born Again was initially scheduled to be released on Disney+ at the beginning of 2024, the strike which has paralyzed the Hollywood industry for several months has already apparently impacted the production of the project, the series having been removed from Marvel Studios’ release schedule. However, we can see certain criticisms appearing regarding this famous “reboot” project.
“An old disney scam”
In fact, it is the showrunner of the first season of the Netflix series, Steven DeKnight, who recently denounced Disney’s methods. Because following a message from an Internet user on X (formerly Twitter), DeKnight responded by giving his opinion on the subject, declaring this:
He does. It’s an old Disney scam where they slightly rename a series to reset contract terms back to first season. Needs to be addressed by all the guilds/unions and crushed! https://t.co/Ttj4A3tnE4
I know it. It’s an old Disney scam that slightly renames a series to restore the contractual terms of the first season. All unions need to look into this issue.
DeKnight criticizes here the fact that Disney is taking advantage of this famous “reboot” to avoid paying the original creators. A reboot that isn’t really one either according to him, since in reality the new series will retain some of the main actors from the Netflix series, namely Cox and D’Onofrio. A method which would then be commonplace at Disney according to DeKnight, the latter believing that this should also be taken into account in the demands of the film industry unions which are campaigning at the moment.
