The slightly golden glamor of the MET Gala

The “golden glamor” promised by this year’s MET Gala does not seem to have been able to make the staircase of the New York museum shine, decorated for the occasion with 275,000 roses. The looks that left open-mouthed – and that respected the theme – were few, perhaps due to the criticisms that have been chased by the announcement of the theme, considered to be disrespectful of the period we are facing.

The “golden glamor” in fact refers to the period of prosperity that affected the United States from 1870 to about 1900. That “golden age” praised by Mark TwainKim Kardas

Present at the event, after the participation of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez last September, Hillary Clinton in an Altuzzarra dress. To offer – unwittingly – a representation of the fascinating relationship between pop culture and politics, however, it was Kim Kardashianarrived with her new boyfriend Pete Davidson (in Dior) wearing the iconic dress chosen by Marilyn Monroe for the 45th birthday of JFKthe actress’s last public appearance before her death.

For the first time, the whole clan Kardashian-Jenner was present at the MET Gala. Kris wore an Oscar de la Renta yellow dress, Kourtney – with her future husband Travis Barker – chose Thom Browne, his sister Khloé opted instead for a faithful representation of the theme of the evening with a Moschino gold beaded dress. Kendall wore a tulle top overlaid with a crystal-embellished mesh top and a voluminous double silk satin skirt with hand-made rouches, designed especially for her by Prada. Finally, Kylie chose to pay homage Virgil Ablohwearing a revisited version of the latest couture dress designed by the designer.

Blake Lively – godmother of the evening – surprised everyone with her Atelier Versace dress. A tribute to the city of New York and its symbol, the Statue of Liberty. The actress’s dress was in fact transformed from copper to blue with a few simple moves, to represent the oxidation process of the monument.

Also featured on the red carpet Donatella Versacein a dress of crystals, gold and denim, accompanied by the rapper Cardi B. The model also wore Versace Gigi Hadid (in latex red), the very young singer Olivia Rodrigo (in a sparkling lilac dress) and the very Italians Fedez And Chiara Ferragni (in a vintage dress).

And although we continue to talk about golden glamor, black was the real star of the evening, chosen by dozens of stylists and celebrities. From custom made or archival looks – in the name of circular creativity – signed by Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton and worn by the actresses Sophie Turner, Gemma Chan, Eileen Gu And Phoebe Dynevorfull Dunhill chosen by Damson Idris up to the custom Givenchy dress, designed by Matthew M. Williams for the model Karlie Kloss.
