In 2019, Bianca Andreescu was the revelation of a women’s tour. She triumphed in Indian Wells, Toronto and the US Open Grand Slam, thanks to which she climbed to fourth place in the world ranking. After that, however, her career was put to a halt by health problems, especially a serious knee injury she suffered during the WTA Finals 2019.

The representative of the Maple Leaf Country lost all of 2020 and did not return to the competition until February 2021. In April, she reached the final of the Miami Open competition, but did not finish the championship with Ashleigh Barty due to an injury. Her health problems returned, and Andreescu was unable to catch her own rhythm. At the end of the season, she reached the 1/8 finals of the US Open and the third round in Indian Wells.

Currently ranked 46th in the WTA ranking, the Canadian admitted on Monday that the last two years had been demanding for her for various reasons. “This year in particular, I spent many weeks in isolation, which affected me mentally and physically. Moreover, my grandmother spent several weeks in the intensive care unit due to COVID-19 and it was something that struck me a lot. myself, especially during training or matches. I felt like I was carrying the whole world on my shoulders, “she confessed on Twitter.

Andreescu admitted that in the time of the pandemic she felt great sadness and was unable to train normally. “I need some extra reset time to grow out of this (as cliché as it sounds) and inspire others through charity and self-work, because I know by doing this I will come back stronger. So I won’t start the season in Australia, but will use the extra time, to prepare for the coming 2022 “- added the champion of the US Open 2019.
