An unlikely superhero fights micro-crime on the outskirts of an Australian city
It will arrive on January 9 on Disney+ Koala Mananimated series starring a family man in the guise of an unlikely superhero grappling with petty crimes in the suburbs of a small town in Australia. The series is created by Michael Cusack, who voices the main character. The trailer introduces Kevin, an authentic Australian superhero who wears a koala mask and goes out at night rescuing kittens trapped in trees, posting signs against dog defecation on public roads and measuring his neighbours’ lawns. Kevin’s love of rules and desire to keep things orderly in the city of Dapto led him to create a not-so-secret hero identity. The trailer also introduces the secondary characters of Koala Man. For starters, we have Hugh Jackman as Big Greg, Kevin’s boss at his boring day job. The voice cast also boasts the star of Succession, Sarah Snook, Demi Lardner, Jemaine Clement, Alexandra Daddario, Rachel House, Angus Sampson, Hugo Weaving, Michelle Brasier, Mark Coles Smith, Liam McIntyre, Claudia O’Doherty, Jordan Shanks, Natalie Trad, Jarrad Wright.
Koala Man: the trailer of the animated series coming to Disney +
Koala Man first appeared in the Australian anthology series Fresh Blood. The animated short, developed by Cusack, has Hulu ordering an 8-episode first season, executive produced by the creator of Solar Opposites and co-creator of Rick and Morty Justin Roilandas well as Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Michael Cowap is also an executive producer. The official synopsis reads:
Koala Man follows Kevin, a middle-aged father whose identity isn’t so secret, whose only superpower is a burning passion to rule and shut down petty crime in the city of Dapto. While it may look like any other Australian suburb, both cosmic and man-made evil forces are waiting to pounce on unsuspecting Daptonians. On a mission to clean up his hometown, and often involving his frustrated family in his adventures, Koala Man is ready. He’ll do whatever it takes to defeat evil masterminds, supernatural horrors, or worse: jerks who don’t take their trash cans down on the right days.
