Maestrostory about the life of the composer behind West Side Story now has a trailer, pending a release scheduled for December 20th. The film will focus on his 25-year marriage to Felicia Montealegre, an actress and activist who died of lung cancer in 1978 at the age of 56. Bradley Cooper will be behind and in front of the camera as Leonard Bernstein, alongside Carey Mullingan.
The romance behind West Side Story
Directed by Bradley Cooper, Maestro is also produced by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg. Before its release on Netflix, the film will be presented exclusively at the Venice Film Festival on November 22.
A Broadway icon, composer Leonard Bernstein wrote the music for West Side Story for its grand premiere in 1957. Planetary success, the reinterpretation of Romeo and Juliet in 1950s New York continues to be played around the world and has been adapted for the cinema twice, in 1961 and 2021. Director of the second version, Steven Spielberg had also been approached to direct the film, before the arrival of Bradley Cooper. The American actor had already directed in 2018 A Star Is Borngreat success in theaters, with Lady Gaga in the main role.
