Dwayne Johnson’s career began not in the entertainment industry, but as an athlete. He trained college football in college, and his team from the University of Miami even won the 1991 national championship. Then, for a short time he dealt with football professionally, and eventually became a professional wrestler with the pseudonym The Rock. This is how he won the sympathy of the media and viewers – he won the title of the most charismatic wrestler of the year six times.
Dwayne Johnson – The Rock starred films
In the end, The Rock appealed to the film industry – in 1999 he appeared in the series “Różowe 70y”, a year later in “Star Trek: Voyager”. As “himself” he also appeared in, for example, the popular children’s series “Hannah Montana”, “Wizards of Weaverly Place” or in “Cory in the White House”. In 2001, he appeared as the evil King Scorpio in the production of “The Mummy Returns,” starring Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser. It was a debut so successful that The Rock, along with Eliot Pag, James McAvoy and Amy Adams, entered the list of the most promising actors and actresses of “Entertainment Weekly” magazine.
Johnson also had his own film “The Scorpion King” after a few years, and in 2004 he starred in the production of “With Your Forehead High” – a remake of a 1973 film whose plot was based on facts. In it, Johnosn plays a former special forces soldier who, on his return to his homeland, discovers that drug trafficking has flourished in the area and that residents are being intimidated by the employees of the new casino. The police are doing nothing to protect the innocent, so Sergeant Chris Vaughn has to take matters into his own hands.
Another high-profile production with his participation is the movie “Game Plan”, in which he played the role of a football player, who learns years later that he has a daughter – the title earned 150 million dollars all over the world. Only in 2011, The Rock joined the cast of “The Fast and the Furious” – in the fifth part of this popular series he played federal agent Luke Hobbs, who in the course of subsequent films becomes an ally and client of the famous crew Doma Torreto. He also returned to this character in “Fast and Furious 6”, “Fast and Furious 7”, “Fast and Furious 8” and “Fast and Furious 9”. For all this, a special spin-off was filmed with him in the spotlight, entitled Hobbs and Shaw.
Not only does Johnson have a taste for action movies, he also enjoys appearing in comedy and family productions: later he appeared in, among others, in the spy comedy “Get Smart” opposite the Oscar-winning Anne Hathaway and Steve Carellaa, and in the family comedy “Good Fairy” he played a tooth fairy; the comic effect is obvious. He won the hearts of viewers also thanks to his dubbing skills – in Disney’s “Vaiana” he lent a voice to the demigod of Maui, which made a new generation of admirers fall in love with him, also for his songs such as “Drobnostka”. .
Interestingly, before The Rock played in “Mumia Returns”, he published his autobiography “The Rock Says” in 2000 – again it turned out that people love him, because the book took first place on the bestseller list published by The New York Times. It cannot be denied that his biography is so interesting that it is perfectly suited for a film – Polish viewers can watch on the web on CANAL PLUS the comedy biographical series “Young The Rock”, in which his childhood years are shown. The production consists of 11 episodes and focuses on how the future star grows up. Dwayne plays himself again and at the same time makes fun of Hollywood – in the script he runs to the future until 2032, when he is running for president of the USA (such plans were had by rapper Kanye West, for example). As a politician with aspirations, he sits in front of the camera and gives a biographical interview in which he describes the most important and decisive moments in his adolescent life.
The Rock – not only an actor
Dwayne Johnson is also involved in film production – as a producer and co-producer he worked on such films as “Travel to the Mysterious Island”, “Inflitrator”, “Baywatch. Sunny Patrol”, “Jumanji: Adventure in the Jungle”, “Rampage: Wild Fury”, “Skyscraper”, “Fighting With My Family” or “Jumanji: The Next Level” – he also played a role in each of these productions.
