Manchester United announced on Sunday 21 November that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ceased to act as the first team coach. The Norwegian received a severance payment of £ 7.5 million from the club. Temporarily, Solskjaer was replaced by Michael Carrick, who had previously been his assistant. The club said in a statement that it is looking for a temporary solution until the end of the 2021/2022 season.
Ernesto Valverde is a new candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
British newspaper “The Guardian” reports that Ernesto Valverde is another candidate for the position of head coach of Manchester United’s first team. The Spaniard is being considered by Red Devils authorities only as an option until the end of the season and has already had a talk with John Murtough, United’s sporting director. Valverde has already started looking for players who could strengthen Manchester United after his arrival.
Ernesto Valverde worked in Barcelona in 2017-2020 and won two Spanish championships and the national cup with the Catalans. The coach revealed in an interview with “The Observer” in June this year that he would be willing to start working in England. “I could work there, I wouldn’t mind such a scenario. You have the impression that they respect football there” – said Valverde.
Ernesto Valverde is one of five candidates to head for Manchester United. The priority for the club’s management is Mauricio Pochettino, currently bound by a contract with PSG. The Argentine was to tell the Old Trafford team that he was ready to take the team during the season. Pochettino referred to all the commotion at the press conference ahead of the Manchester City match. “I feel great in Paris. I focus only on football, I am not a child. There is speculation, but you have to live with it, I respect my employer. I will not comment on it,” he said.
