Since then, work has been carried out to make the solution available also for light fleets and – most importantly – individual customers. The testing process was successfully completed in mid-November!
What is e-TOLL
E-TOLL is the successor to the viaTOLL toll collection system. The aim of the new system is to improve the passage of selected road sections by eliminating the need to pay tolls at the gates and by popularizing electronic tolls for motorways. According to the plan, from December 1, 2021, all toll gates will be opened on the toll sections of the state motorways A2 Konin – Stryków and A4 Wrocław – Sośnica, which means that it will no longer be possible to pay tolls at toll stations. This means that drivers of passenger cars, motorbikes and buses will pay for their journey using the e-TOLL application, either by purchasing a motorway ticket in advance, or by using the Autopay application.
How to pay with Autopay for using state motorways?
If you want to use Autopay on the state sections of the A2 and A4 motorways, you must first register in the Autopay system. After downloading the Autopay application, create your account by providing: e-mail address and telephone number, vehicle data (make, registration number) and the source of payment (credit or debit card). The application must also activate the motorway sections for which tolls may be charged automatically.
Autopay on state highways is based on the so-called geofencing – the location of the vehicle is checked on a point-by-point basis only on the phone, without transmitting location data to the Autopay system. Autopay gets information from the phone only when passing through the entry and exit points from the toll section. Videotolling operates on a similar principle, based on which the payment is collected on the licensed sections of the A1 and A4 motorways.
Autoplay does not “track” drivers!
The authors of the application emphasize that Autopay does not save location data anywhere, and the information is only used to purchase a highway ticket. When the vehicle approaches the gates, Autopay sends a push message informing that a ticket will be purchased in a moment. After receiving it, the customer has 3 minutes to cancel the transaction, after which Autopay assumes that the driver has decided to travel. The payment for the motorway section traveled is charged automatically from the card after the end of the journey. Importantly, when using Autopay, you only need to run the application (it can run in the background, but it must be turned on). There is no need to press the start and stop button of the trip (as it works in the e-TOLL application).
Simpler than e-TOLL. Thinking about foreigners?
Autopay can also be used by drivers from other countries and drivers using vehicles with foreign registration numbers. At the end of November, Autopay will also make it possible to purchase a motorway ticket in advance on the ebiletautostradowy.pl website. This is a solution for people who do not want to install any additional applications on their phone. Autopay is a system for quick payments, thanks to which, from 2019, drivers can automatically pay for journeys on the AmberOne A1 (Toruń-Gdańsk) and A4 Katowice – Kraków motorways without stopping at the gates.
Thus, Autopay is the most comprehensive solution enabling convenient payments for state and licensed motorway sections in Poland. The only section not currently served by the Autopay system is Autostrada Wielkopolska. There, after December 1, you will still be able to pay the toll manually at the toll station.
