The marine protected area of the Kingdom of Neptune, which embraces the islands of Ischia and Procida, opens to the anchoring of mega yachts, in four ad hoc areas where their presence does not negatively impact ecosystems, and in particular off the coast of Forio (area San Francesco), in the Maronti bay (area adjacent to Porto Sant’Angelo harbor) and off the coast of Ischia and Lacco Ameno.
On the recommendation of the board of directors and after having examined the requests of the tour operators, the marine area has thus started the modification of the regulation, offering the possibility – against the payment of the fees for the authorizations – to anchor also to the pleasure boats of longer than 24 meters. “The access routes to the areas – it is specified in the specification must take place perpendicularly to the coast, at slow motion and with the necessary precautions dictated by good seafaring expertise, and to the safety of navigation”. Regulations and indications are on the site of the protected marine area (www.nettunoamp.it): for greater booking convenience, the model is dedicated to shipping agents, but individual owners can contact the Marine Protected Area directly for authorizations.
“This is an exception to the regulation that reconciles the need to protect our ecosystems, which for us remains mandatory, with the economic and tourist development of the island of Ischia, which – as we demonstrate with this new step – is not incompatible with the mission of a protected marine area ”, explains Antonino Miccio, director of the Kingdom of Neptune.
