The prime minister informed on Facebook that he had sent a letter to Members of the European Parliamentin which a debate was held on the situation on the Polish, Lithuanian and Latvian border with Belarus. According to Prime Minister Morawiecki, the letter included the principles that “will allow Europe to take the initiative and block the actions of Vladimir Putin and Alyaksandr Lukashenka”.
The head of the Polish government noted that the voice of Poland, the country on whose borders “a spectacle of the Belarusian regime is taking place, he had to be present in Strasbourg today, because the matter does not only concern Warsaw, Vilnius or Riga, but is a threat to the entire European Union”.
“For the first time since the fall of the Iron Curtain, the integrity of the borders of Poland and the Baltic states is directly threatened. But the long shadow of Russia’s neo-imperial policy extends today more widely, to all of Europe.” – the Prime Minister noted in his letter.
“For several weeks Alexander Lukashenko sends hundreds of civilians to the Polish-Belarusian border every day. What we see at first glance resembles the migration crisis of 2015 (year). The truth, however, is different. We are dealing with a planned provocation in which migrants are only Lukashenka’s tools. The aim is to destabilize the situation in Europe “ – he stressed.
According to the head of government “The Belarusian usurper laughs in the face of Europe because he is convinced that the EU is unable to give him and his principals a proper response.” The prime minister emphasized in the letter that “Russia of Vladimir Putin has been consistently striving for years to rebuild the imperial position and subjugate a large part of Europe”, a “its strength is our passivity”.
“Battle for the future of Europe”
“On the eastern borders of the EU, on the Polish-Belarusian border, it is going on today regular battle for the future of Europe. It’s high time we all realized this “ the Prime Minister announced.
According to Mateusz Morawiecki, they are needed “clear rules that will allow Europe to take the initiative and block the next actions of Vladimir Putin and Alyaksandr Lukashenka”. “First, no concessions. Things had gone too far. Russia and Belarus have crossed all possible borders. We cannot allow them more “ – wrote the prime minister.
He also indicated in the letter, inter alia, that “any attempt to resolve a conflict must be based on an agreement”, a “every attempt to negotiate bypassing some countries is a success of Vladimir Putin”.
According to Morawiecki “words are not enough anymore”. “We must act decisively, through economic sanctions that will show that we are responding with determination to the provocations of Minsk and the Kremlin” – he stressed.
