In a study by scientists at the University of Oxford on mixing coronavirus vaccines 1,070 volunteers took part. The aim of the study was to show that the “mix” of vaccines is not significantly inferior to the standard regimens. Ultimately, scientists proved that the vaccinated people had better immune response when they received their first injection of AstraZeneca or Pfizer / BioNTech and then received Moderna or Novavax.

COVID-19 vaccine “blends” do not pose a health risk

The study also showed that a dose of Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine followed by Moderna vaccine gave better immunity than two doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

According to a study by the University of Oxford, published in the medical journal Lancet, no concerns were raised about the safety of mixing the vaccines.

Many countries started using “blended” vaccines long before the data became available. This was due to the rapidly increasing number of infections, supply shortages and the slow pace of vaccination.

Mixing COVID-19 Vaccines. Good news for poor countries

New reports give some hope to poor countries and middle-income ones who may need to combine vaccines from different vendors between the first and second doses if stocks run out or supplies become unstable.

According to the researchers, if a Moderny or Novavax vaccine is given after AstraZeneki vaccine, higher levels of antibodies and T-cell responses will later be recorded compared to two doses of AstraZeneca.
