“Hi everyone, here we are over beautiful South Africa, filming parts one and two of Mission: Impossible – Dead ReckoningTom Cruise shouts to a camera, over the hum of a plane. “I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for going to the movies and thanks for supporting Top Gun: Maverick”. After just over 20 seconds, the camera is seen panning to reveal Christopher McQuarriewho will return to direct Mission: Impossible in the two chapters Dead Reckoning. McQuarrie also wrote Top Gun: Maverick and produced the film with Cruise and David Ellison. “Hey listen, we really need to leave. We have to do this heist,” the director tells Tom Cruise in the video. The star smiles and promptly jumps out of the plane. With his entire body extended in a starfish-like position to resist the air, Cruise returns his attention to the camera and resumes his speech. “As always, thank you for letting us entertain you. It truly is the honor of a lifetime. I’m running out of altitude, so I have to get back to work. We have to do this recovery. I hope you will have a very safe and happy holidays. See you at the movies,” concludes Cruise, before being swept away by a current of wind towards the ocean. Top Gun: Maverick it remains firmly the year’s top-grossing film, having earned a whopping $718 million at the domestic box office and $1.4 billion worldwide.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will see the return of many other veterans of the franchise such as Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirby and Henry Czerny. In the official trailer we see Tom Cruise in a series of action-packed sequences, such as a fight in a nightclub, a chase on top of a moving train and, of course, many falls. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will be released theatrically by Paramount Pictures on July 14, 2023. The sequel, Part Two, is currently scheduled to be released on June 28, 2024.
