extraordinary on Disney+ January 25

The new original British comedy series joins Disney+’s list of top British series.

Written by the creator and writer of the series, Emma Moranand directed by Toby McDonald, Jennifer Sheridan and Nadira Amraniis a fresh and innovative comedy about being young and finding your way in a confusing world, when all you can be is “ordinary”.

extraordinary is set in a world where everyone develops a power on their 18th birthday…all except Jen, who is about to turn 25 and is still waiting to get hers. She’s not even curious what it could be: super speed? Laser eyes? The ability to plug in a USB the right way every time? She will accept it. Like a caterpillar surrounded by butterflies, Jen feels unable to carry on, stuck in a dead-end job at a party supply store and occasionally dating Luke, a queer boy with the annoying ability to fly.
Thankfully, Jen can count on Carrie to keep her from wallowing in her self-pity. Inseparable since their school days, their relationship swings between being sister, parent and sidekick for each other. Together they share a flat in East London with Kash, Carrie’s longtime boyfriend. Carrie has the power to connect with the dead, but she feels she’s been overshadowed by her own talent: does anyone care what she has to say? Kash takes his power – the ability to go back in time – very seriously, but he’s not above using it to remedy minor embarrassments or moments when he says exactly the wrong thing to a long-suffering Carrie. The fourth member of the apartment is a stray cat, renamed Jizzlord by the group, who hides a surprising secret: apparently even cats have more power than Jen.

Adrift in a big and confusing world and armed with only a little hope and a lot of despair, Jen begins her journey to find her hypothetical superpower. But in doing so, she may discover the joy of just being okay.

The series stars a cast of up-and-coming British talent including Máiréad Tyers, Sofia Oxenham, Bilal Hasna and Luke Rollason. With them Siobhan McSweeney, Robbie Gee, Safia Oakley-Green and Ned Porteous.
