Two official Italian clips have just been released from David Cronenberg’s highly anticipated new film, “Crimes of the future”. Lucky Red has published them on the net, thus offering a taste of the new cinematic work signed by the master Cronenberg.
The film starring Léa Seydoux and, for the fourth time directed by Cronenberg, Viggo Mortensen will arrive in Italian cinemas on 24 August. The proposed clips are titled “Saul and Caprice” and “A new organ”.
After The Assassin’s Promise, A History of Violence And A Dangerous Method, continues the partnership between David Cronenberg and what is now his fetish actor, Viggo Mortensen. This is the fourth time the two have worked synergistically on the same set.
Alongside the Canadian director’s male muse are two of those who we hope will become his two female muses: Léa Seydoux and Kristen Stewart.
You can watch the two official Italian clips entitled “Saul and Caprice” and “A new organ” in the videos you find at the bottom of this article.
Crimes of the Future, here is the Allegro Chirurgo in Cronenberg version
Crimes of the future takes the title of the 1970 film of the same name (written and directed by him) but does not want to be a remake. It marks the great return of the director, eight years after his last film, Maps to the Stars (2014). In addition to marking Cronenberg’s grand return to a set, it also marks the director’s return to the body horror genre. The latter is a trend that Cronenberg had already shown to prefer with his films Shivers, Rabid, The Brood And The fly. “A shocking and extreme, visceral film, in which Cronenberg returns to explore the evolution of man and the planet in relation to technology,” reads the official press release of the film. “An out-of-the-box vision, an unsettling science fiction film that encompasses all the very topical themes of the Canadian author’s filmography”.
Crimes of the Future, the official trailer of Cronenberg’s film
The film is set in an unspecified future and sees the body of human beings modified (and constantly changing) following the disastrous effects of pollution and climate change. Man is therefore capable of carrying out continuous mutations.
Former surgeon Caprice (Léa Seydoux) harnesses the ability of her partner Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) to develop new organs to perform surgical removal art. This couple will publicly show man’s internal metamorphosis, delivering cutting-edge shows that will attract the attention of Timlin (Kristen Stewart), National Organ Registry investigator. But also of a suspected subversive group whose aim is to take humanity to the next evolutionary stage.
