The George Floyd case
The death of Gorge Floyd on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis, echoed around the world and dominated U.S. public debate for a long time, focusing on police brutality and the discrimination faced by black citizens.
In the recording that went to the media, you can see George Floyd’s horror when a policeman, aiming at him with a gun, orders him to get out of the car. “Please don’t shoot,” Floyd repeats. The video also shows how he relies when policemen try to put him in a police car, saying he is claustrophobic. – Please don’t shoot me, man. I just lost my mother – begs the men
After a short scuffle, you can see him falling to the ground, with his knee pressed against one of the officers. She repeats that she cannot breathe, calls her mother. You can even hear him say, “I will probably die this way.”
Throughout the intervention, Floyd is seen to be scared, sobbing and begging for his life.
Recordings made public by “Daily Mail”, come from the cameras of officers Thomas Lane and Alex Kueng. They were both involved in Floyd’s arrest – when he was overpowered and lying on the ground, Kueng held him by the back and Lane by his legs. Tou Thao was still watching the incident. It was Derek Chauvin who knelt around Floyd’s neck without relieving the pressure, even as witnesses watched the incident shouting to him that the man had stopped breathing. He was charged with second-degree murder, punishing him in Minnesota with up to 40 years in prison. The remaining officers were accused of helping and inciting. The trial of all four will begin in March this year.
