The 2022 Exhibition celebrates ninety years since its foundation in 1932 and the tenth since the birth of the Biennale College, which prepares the future and looks at new technologies. Both anniversaries are witnessed in two publications: the volume signed by Gian Piero Brunetta, ‘The Venice International Film Festival 1932-2022’, published by Edizioni La Biennale di Venezia and Marsilio Editori, and the volume ‘Dieci – Biennale College Cinema 2012-2022 ‘, published by La Biennale ”.

Alberto Barbera presented this 79th edition with words that summarize the spirit of the time: “It is said that festivals are a window on the world, from which we also see things we would prefer not to see, such as the war in Ukraine, the arrests of filmmakers in Iran, or the conviction of the Turkish producer sentenced for a documentary that was never made. The festival will announce initiatives in this regard, because festivals are not closed bubbles that do not look at reality ”. Also this year the demonstration does not deny its commitment to human rights. In all at the Lido we will see 73 new feature films from the Official Selection, 16 short films in the various sections, two TV series, in Venezia Classici 18 restored feature films and 9 documentaries on cinema. The countries from which they come are 56.
