VIII day of Study on the restoration of the Contemporary

Friday 3 February from 9.00 to 18.30, in the context of ABABO ART WEEKL’Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna organizes, in collaboration with IGIIC (Italian Group of the International Institute for Conservation), the traditional study day on restoration of the contemporarynow in its eighth edition.

The event, this year dedicated to cement as an artistic expression and to the support adhesive mortarswill take place in the Aula Teatro dell’Accademia and will see curators, restorers, artists and technology experts related to the sector confront each other.

Cement, a material widely used in construction, has been experimented in the artistic field since the beginning of the 20th century. Used pure or combined with other materials, chosen as a sculptural means to create large-scale works, to decorate architectural surfaces, as a material in itself, or as a support for paintings and mosaics, it has not always met conservative and above all aesthetic expectations, yet still today some artists choose it as a means of expression. With this meeting we therefore want to evaluate the artistic value of this material, often assimilated to that of construction, and question its autonomous conservative specificity.

The study day will also try to take stock of the adhesive support mortars, created with a cement base and used for three-dimensional works, the duration of which often depends precisely on the characteristics of these materials.
