The Danish actor turns 57 today. These are some of the streaming films with which he has established himself as one of the great interpreters of our times.

Today we celebrate 57 years and the crystalline talent of the Dane Mads Mikkelsen, one of the most important actors of the new millennium of cinema, both in Europe and in Hollywood. Looking forward to seeing him as the supervillain in Indiana Jones 5 – the first images really bode well – here are the five streaming movies that we have selected to pay homage to him. Enjoy the reading.

Five streaming films starring Mads Mikkelsen

  • Casino Royale
  • Valhalla Rising – Kingdom of blood
  • The suspect
  • Arctic
  • Another round

Casino Royale (2006)

As an antagonist of Daniel Craig in his first film since James Bond, Mikkelsen immediately becomes one of the great “villains” of the 007 saga. It is also thanks to him that Casino Royale imposes itself as a majestic reboot of the character, rough and fascinating as ever. Martin Campbell puts on a cinematic spectacle of the highest order, with an impressive opening sequence. After Skyfall the best James Bond played by Craig. Great success with audiences and critics. Also in the cast is a magnificent one Eve Green. Available on Rakuten TV, KILOS, Google Play, Amazon Prime Videos.

Valhalla Rising (2009)

After being directed by the cult director Nicolas Winding Refn in the two episodes of PushersMikkelsen collaborates again with the author of Drive in a very violent and visionary film, an action set in the time of the Vikings that leaves the viewer with an insinuating sense of oppression. Valhalla Rising – Kingdom of blood it is a non-obvious show, which knows how to put a strain and at the same time hypnotizes. The protagonist is simply magnetic, in one of the most physical tests of his career. Filmone, even if not always easy to introject. Available on CHILI, Amazon Prime Video.

Suspicion (2012)

Another excellent collaboration is with Thomas Vinterberg, who directs him in a thriller-tinged drama that few other actors would have been able to interpret with such subtlety. The role is one of those who don’t make themselves loved, that is a professor wrongly accused of molesting a child. The suspect he works on the unsaid with a frightening ferocity, he narrates characters in chiaroscuro with an unheard-of psychological violence. Mikkelsen does a painstaking job, so as to get to the Palme d’Or in Cannes for her male interpretation. Well deserved. Difficult film to forget. Available on Rakuten TV, CHILI, Google Play, Apple iTunesAmazon Prime Video.

Arctic (2018)

We wanted to include the first in the five Doctor Strangebut in the end he was undermined by this frozen thriller in which Mikkelsen is the absolute protagonist, and in a pure genre product he still offers a painful and emotional performance, in our opinion one of the best of his career. Arctic it unfolds on the silences, on the expanses of ice that tell the story of the human immobility of the protagonist. Visually very nice film, where, however, what counts first of all is the journey of the main character, remarkable in his development. “Small” film that we highly recommend. Available on CHILI, Google Play, Amazon Prime Video.

Another Round (2020)

We could only close with the film it brought Thomas Vinterberg to the Oscar for the best international film, and to the nomination for the best director and screenplay. Still a teacher, who chooses to fight his existential crisis with an alcoholic experiment that leads him and his travel companions to undermine the rules of a bigoted and respectable society. Another round it is a slap in the face to the lucid and exciting system, a human drama that can be as straightforward as it is ambiguous. Vibrant performance by Mikkelsen, at the best of his great histrionic qualities. And what a subdued charisma…Available on Rakuten TV, CHILI, Apple Itunes.
