Zero emissions by 2040
In the industrial plan of the FS group there are investments for 190 billion euros for a sustainable development of infrastructures and mobility, Giadrossi underlined. The first objective is Carbon neutrality by 2040, or the zeroing of emissions ten years ahead of the European deadline. Added to this is the commitment of the FS Group to contribute to the ecological transition: to satisfy at least 40% of its electricity needs through a plan for self-production of energy from renewable sources which, with an investment of 1.6 billion, will increase about 10% of the total power of the photovoltaic systems installed in Italy today. In the near future, 46 new high-speed trains, 34 Intercity trains and 495 lighter and more ecological regional trains will enter service. The rolling stock plan foresees a radical renewal by 2031, with 324 new electric locomotives, 68 diesel and hybrid locomotives, 3,600 wagons of which 160 will be delivered by the end of the year. FS also undertakes to evaluate all its suppliers according to ESG criteria by 2026. For 2031 there is also the goal of recycling or sending for recovery all the waste produced.
