Fewer places, greener. And no trace of history. With a resolution approved on Tuesday evening, the council of the municipality of Milan – announced Palazzo Marino in a note – “takes note of the update of the feasibility study presented by the sports clubs Ac Milan Spa and Fc Internazionale Milano Spa, and orders the start of the public debate on the same proposal, expected in the coming days “.
In essence, the council has given its ok to the project presented by the clubs for the new stadium and now the time has come for the public debate, the last step before the official green light for the new facility. “The project was also considered complete by the national commission for public debate, for which the procedure can therefore be considered correctly established. It will be the coordinator, identified by the administration in the person of Andrea Pillon with the support of the company Avventura Urbana Srl, to draw up the project and debate document, which will illustrate the main stages of the process, the calendar of meetings, the ways of listening and participating in the citizens concerned “, continued by the municipality.
And it was the administration itself that underlined that “the updating of the clubs incorporates the conditions required by the municipality, in particular on the three fundamental points contained in the council resolution of last November: adjustment of the territorial building index to the maximum required by the provision of the approved territorial governance plan with reference to the large San Siro urban function, equal to 0.35 square meters; reconfiguration of the area where the Meazza currently stands as a sports district with enhancement and increase of the green; updating, in the subsequent design phase, of the economic and financial plan “.
In practice, where the Meazza now stands, a large green area will be created, while according to the study of the clubs – the municipality clarified – the new stadium will have a capacity of about 60 thousand seats – 20 thousand fewer than the current 80 thousand – and “will be accompanied by a series of integrated service functions, such as food outlets and reception areas “. The reconfiguration of the area includes over 100 thousand square meters of greenery, 65% of which are equipped for play and sport.
That this was the direction was clear from the last few days, when the mayor Beppe Sala had hinted, in clear words, that the future of San Siro was marked. Speaking on the sidelines of a debate on organized crime at the Statale, the mayor had unbuttoned: “To all those who tell me ‘San Siro must remain’, even to the committees, I answer ‘what are we going to do with it?’. an idea to manage two stadiums. From my point of view, I think it is economically very burdensome “, he said. “Unless one comes forward and guarantees to take it, rent it and use it for a number of years: this is also the purpose of the public debate, Then at that point you will have to deal with those in the neighborhood who will see the stadium and then maybe the concerts increase. Putting everything together is not easy, but this is the team’s project, so let’s discuss it, “Sala continued, confirming Inter and Milan’s desire to demolish San Siro to make room for Populous’s” Cathedral “.
