Reopening of the cinema astra
After nine years of closure, the Astra cinema reopens to the public, with a program of films and presentations. There will be a double appointment on Saturday, with the afternoon dedicated to the film Trieste is beautiful at night, with director Andrea Sagre present in the room, while in the evening the programming includes the viewing of the film My name revenge. Here too the director Cosimo Gomez and co-screenwriter Sandrone Dazieri will be in the room. On Sunday, instead, space for the collective of videomakers Il Terzo Segreto di Satira with the film, in world premiere, Domino 23 – The last will not be the first.
Home of Giorgio Vasari
In 1561 Cosimo I de’ Medici gave Giorgio Vasari a house in Borgo Santa Croce as a ducal privilege. Around 1572, Vasari and his collaborators decorated the Sala Grande, on the main floor, with frescoes centered on the theme of the Arts and the primacy of Drawing. On Saturday it will be possible to visit his house through a guided tour. A story of the precious cycle of frescoes that is offered to the public as a compendium of the vision of art, according to the most influential artist at the court of Cosimo I de’ Medici.
Mugello Carnival
It’s time to dress up for the carnival. In Mugello, in Piazza Dante, in Borgo San Lorenzo, the Mugello Carnival will take place for five consecutive Sundays. Games, parades and lots of fun are planned for one of the most important carnivals in Tuscany. All accompanied by excellent music, which will be curated by Radio Sieve.
Feast of pancakes
Continuing the carnival theme, what could be tastier than rice pancakes? To eat in large quantities, just go to San Donato in Collina, in the Florentine area. The small hamlet turns into the town of pancakes, and every Saturday and Sunday, from 8:30, it will be possible to taste the delicious sweets while stocks last. The rice pancakes will also be gluten-free.
Inside Banksy
the most subversive and satirical artist in the panorama of world street art returns to Florence. Until 26 February, the exhibition, which recounts Banksy’s creative journey, can be visited at the Cathedral of the Image, in Piazza Santo Stefano in the heart of Florence. A spectacular immersive event created by Crossmedia with the scientific contribution of the curator Gianni Mercurio.
Ice-skating
Last weekend to enjoy the San Donato skating rink. In front of the entrance to the park in via di Novoli, a stone’s throw from the T2 San Donato-University stop, here is an ice rink, an event space and a kiosk for refreshments with various delicacies and warm up a little with hot chocolate or, for the older ones, good mulled wine.
pretty woman
Appreciated by audiences and critics, Pretty Woman the Musical, with more than 80,000 tickets sold, was the most successful theater show at the box office in Italy during 2021. Only three dates in Florence to enjoy this show : 27, 28 and 29 January at the Teatro Verdi. The theatrical adaptation maintains the narrative system of the cinematic success awarded in 1991 with a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy film (Julia Roberts) and faithfully retraces the moments of Vivian and Edward’s love story.
Isidora at the Conventino
Markets, street food, music, art and creative workshops. All this is “Isidora”, a mini-festival at the Conventino in via Giano della Bella 20. From 3 to 5 pm the talk by Atena Forconi Writing about cinema: secrets, praise and criticism of the big screen with Valentina Messina and Caterina Liverani. Screen printing and Unter Druck – songwriting workshops follow from 5 to 7 pm. The evening closes from 5pm onwards with an aperitif, live music, DJ sets and live painting by Andrea Dimo.
