What we already know about the next Monopoly movie

The idea of adapting the Monopoly on the big screen is not new, but it should soon materialize. In project since 2007, already, the actor Kevin Hart, director Tim Story and even Ridley Scott were to tackle it, but no film ultimately saw the light of day. In 2015, it was even announced that two feature films would be devoted to the famous board game.

This time it seems to be the right one. According to Variety, the Hasbro company is currently working with lionsgatethe studio behind ‘John Wick’, ‘Hunger Games’ or even ‘La La Land’, on the creation of a first film ‘Monopoly‘. The project was revived following Lionsgate’s $500 million buyout of Entertainment One (eOne) studio, which was owned by Hasbro.

A ‘Jumanji’ scenario?

In a statement, Chris CocksHasbro’s CEO, recently expressed his satisfaction with the deal and expressed optimism about the upcoming ‘Monopoly’ movie: “Lionsgate’s management team has experience in the entertainment and knows how to create value. We are happy to have found such a welcoming home for our eOne film & TV business. We look forward to working with them, especially on the film adaptation of Monopoly.”

Nothing has yet filtered concerning the realization, the casting and a possible release date. As for the plot, it could, as was once envisaged, follow the adventures of a experienced player who would find themselves transported into the world of the board game in the spirit of ‘Jumanji‘, or else take the more classic form of a story about the origins of the game. In any case, ‘Monopoly’ could be the first Hasbro game in a long series to be adapted for the cinema!

‘John Wick 4’ and ‘Hunger Games’ can be seen in the Proximus VOD catalogue.
