Winamp is back! Beta testing of the new version is coming soon

What to expect from it?

Back in the day, there was probably no home computer that wasn’t running Winamp. Years ago, this audio (and video) file player probably mesmerized millions of users with its visualizations. Before everyone used streaming services like Spotify, audio files were listened to on computers using Winamp. Unfortunately, its glory days are over, and the program has not received an update for a long time. It seems, however, that his great comeback is brewing.

A truly cult program

The first release of Winamp debuted on the market on April 21, 1997. In 1998, the second edition appeared, offering, among other things, support for skins, and in 2002, the 3.0 release, which added support for “modern” skins that were incompatible with earlier versions of the program. Version 5.0 was released in December 2003 and it supports both “classic” and “modern” skins. Interestingly, Winamp version 4.0 never existed. This is because Winamp 5 combined the features of Release # 2 and Release # 3 (2 + 3 = 5).

Winamp was in development until version 5.5 was released in 2007. In October 2018, version 5.8 was leaked, which the developers then decided to make available on their website. Thanks to this, everyone could experience the nostalgia of using this iconic program. Unfortunately, although at that time the developers from Radionomy, responsible for Winamp, stated that they had great plans for the program, no further version of Winamp was released since then.

Winamp is finally coming back

Fortunately, it looks like Radionomy is finally realizing its big plans. Vosveteit reports that the website has been redesigned, and a new player logo was published last week. Site visits showed me that it actually happened.

Best of all, the refreshed version of the aforementioned website allows you to sign up for the beta test of the upcoming new release of Winamp. When will these beta tests take place? Radionomy has not revealed any details about it yet, but I assume it will be soon.

The content of the website suggests that the new Winamp will be completely different from the classic Winamp. Who knows, maybe it will not only be an ordinary player, but also a streaming service.

“If you are an artist or sound creator, we are committed to keeping you in control of your content. We’ll help you connect with your fans and get a fairer income from doing what you love. “, we read on

Well, at the moment we have nothing else to do but wait for the beta tests of the new Winamp and more news about it. I don’t know about you, but I’m extremely curious about what Radionomy has in store.

Of course, if you are not interested in the new Winamp, you can still use the classic one. You will, of course, download it from our software database.
