‘Winter jazz’ arrives at the Dragoni with the notes of Rea and his quartet

The 2023 edition of the ‘Artusi Jazz – Winter Suite’ – promoted by the Dai de jazz association, with the patronage and contribution of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the Emilia-Romagna Region and the Municipalities of Bertinoro, Forlimpopoli, Forlì , Meldola and Santa Sofia – arrives at the Dragoni Theater in Meldola tomorrow at 21.15 with the ‘Old Folks 4ter featuring Danilo Rea’ where melody and improvisation will be the distinctive features. From the trio with Enzo Pietropaoli and Roberto Gatto to the most important Italian songwriters, such as Mina, Rea’s career is full of collaborations and recordings, from Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Phil Woods, Art Farmer, Gato Barbieri, to Michael Brecker, Joe Lovano , John Scofield, Brad Mehldau, Danilo Pérez, Luis Bacalov, Enrico Rava and Beppe Servillo. To remember is the collaboration with Ramin Bahrami.

Together with the pianist on stage Ares Tavolazzi on double bass who, from 1973, was one of the pivots in the Area in the studio and in concerts up to the album ‘Tic Tac’. Since the 80s he has dedicated himself to jazz, collaborating with artists such as Sam Rivers, Lee Konitz, Franco D’Andrea, Pat Metheny, George Benson, Gil Evans, Steve Lacy, Kenny Wheeler, Mike Melillo, Enrico Pieranunzi. He has participated in various editions of Umbria Jazz leading him groups of him. He has been collaborating for some time, producing original music, with the Teatro di Pontedera. Luigi Bonafede, pianist, drummer, composer, arranger, was trained in jazz in the second half of the 70s in Milan in the jazz club ‘Capolinea’. He has collaborated over time with musicians such as Michel Petrucciani, Kenny Clarke, Lee Konitz, Steve Grossman, George Coleman, Paolo Fresu, Enrico Rava, Roberto Gatto, Tullio De Piscopo, Fabrizio Bosso, Rita Marcotulli and many others. Finally Gaspare Pasini, saxophonist and composer, passionate about the music of Art Pepper, who died in 1982, followed in the footsteps of the American musician and, contacting his widow, recovered the original manuscripts and with the musicians who played with him he then created the Pepper Legacy, interpreting Art’s music according to his own artistic signature.
