Without Censorship this Monday welcomes singer Dhi Ribeiro – Surgiu

The musical atmosphere invades the program Sem Censura this Monday (9), with the presence of singer Dhi Ribeiro. She talks with presenter Marina Machado about the beginning of her career in Salvador. She also tells about the Brasília-Africa Connection Project, the tour through Angola and Mozambique, and the performances in Italian cities such as Rome, Milan and Genoa. The program airs at 9pm on TV Brasil.

Born Edilza Rosa Ribeiro in Nilópolis, Rio de Janeiro, in 1965, she moved to Salvador as a child, grew up under the influence of Bahian music and, in 1993, won the revelation singer award at the Salvador Carnival. Dhi returns to his musical origins, samba, when he moves to Brasília. She performed in Italy and released her first solo album when she returned to Brazil in 2009. The following year, she started the Brasilia-Africa Connection project, with tours in Angola and Mozambique, the result of musical research and organization of African repertoire. She had her trajectory told by the samba school Candangos do Bandeirante, from DF, in 2014, with the theme “Dhi Ribeiro: for exclusive use of samba”.

She is the creator of Baile Azul e Branco, an event that rescues the traditional carnival costumes in Brasilia, and the Pipoka Azul block. In 2019, she was chosen by the Organization of American States (OAS) to sing at the closing of the Inter-American Week of Indigenous and Afro-descendant Peoples, in Washington. That same year, she released her second album, Lene da Libertação, with songs that hark back to her Afro-Brazilian roots. Since 2019, she has voiced the mother of the character Sara, in the animated series Sara e Sua Turma, by writer Gisele Gama. She is also Tia Dhi, an important character who talks to children about Afro-Brazilian culture. Currently, also alongside Gisele Gama, she prepares Falando de Amor, a project that combines music and poetry and will soon debut in Brasília.
