On the hill them. Adam Małysz in Wisła-Malinka, we saw 13 Poles on Friday. The White and Reds did not disappoint
After the poor start of the season, we could have worried about the Poles’ disposition, but they did a very solid job in qualifying. As many as 11 White and Reds were promoted to the competition.
Kamil Stoch was the best Pole. The three-time Olympic champion took 10th place after a jump of 122.5 meters. The nineteenth position was taken by Jakub Wolny – 121 m. Right behind him was Piotr Żyła (123 meters). Andrzej Stękała landed the farthest of the Poles, but 124 meters gave him the 22nd position.
Dawid Kubacki (128 m) took 28th place. Three Poles were classified in places from 33 to 35. They were, in turn, Klemens Murańka (122.5 m), Paweł Wąsek (121 m) and Stefan Hula (120 m). Making his World Cup debut, Jan Habdas took 41st position after a jump of 122.5 meters.
Tomasz Pilch (121.5 and 44th position) and Aleksander Zniszczoł (116m and 45th position) will also start in the competition.
The unlucky cat
On the other hand, Jarosław Krzak, who jumped 110.5 meters and took only 58th place, did not qualify for the competition. Maciej Kot was disqualified for non-regulation suit. It is a pity, because 120 meters would surely give him a place in the competition 50.
The qualification was won by Austrian Jan Hoerl, who jumped 129 meters. The winner, however, did not jump the farthest. Karl Geiger, the leader of the World Cup, achieved 134 meters, but the German lost to Hoerl by a point. Norwegian Marius Lindvik was third with 132 m.
After four competitions of the 2021/22 season, Geiger is the leader of the general classification of the World Cup, ahead of Slovenian Anze Laniska by 53 points. The best Pole is Stoch, who takes thirteenth place.
An individual competition will be held on Sunday. A team competition will be held the day before. The coach, Michal Doleżal, decided to represent Poland Piotr Żyła, Andrzej Stękała, Dawid Kubacki and Kamil Stoch.
