Beat the Heat: 5 Spices You Must Avoid During Summers

Summers are here and to beat the scorching heat one needs to take care of his body, which means you need to follow a healthy diet and keep your body hydrated. But food is incomplete if there are no spices in it. Right? Although many spices like mint, coriander, cardamom, and turmeric are known to have cooling properties and are used in summer to enhance the taste of the food and also to beat the heat.

However, there are certain spices which you need to use moderately during the summer to prevent heating illnesses-

What are these spices? Read below:

  1. Ginger: Ginger comes with a number of health advantages. It is known to be a rich source of vitamins, copper and manganese. But Ginger intake in large amounts can also be harmful as it can heat up the body system in summer.
  2. Chillies: Indian cuisine is incomplete without some chillies in it. Not just green, but all types of chillies like thin, long, red, and Black Pepper also. But you should avoid consuming more chillies during summer as capsaicin present in them might cause burning and irritation in your body.
  3. Garlic: Everyone who cooks knows that putting some garlic in your food will enhance its flavour. It also carries several major health advantages and is widely recommended for consumption during the winter. But when it comes to the summer season, you should use this superfood in moderate quantity as it increases the body heat. So there is a high chance that it may cause bad breath, bleeding and an acid influx.
  4. Clove: Clove or as we call it Laung in our Indian household. It should be consumed very carefully during summer. People who suffer from bleeding problems (Menorrhagia, Epistaxis, Haemorrhoids etc) should avoid Clove during hot weather.
  5. Asafoetida: Don’t get confused, it just Hing. Last but not least, Hing is a common ingredient available in every Indian household. Adding a pinch of Hing to our food enhances its taste and is also good for our metabolism. People who suffer from inflammation in their blood should consume it very carefully during the hot months.
