The best Polish tennis player – Iga Świątek (8th WTA), who is seventh in the Australian Open, will face the competitor from the qualifications in the first round. There are no Polish women in them anymore, because Urszula Radwańska and Katarzyna Kawa were eliminated after the first meeting.
Polish match in the third round?
Other Polish tennis players were not so lucky in the draw. Magda Linette (55th WTA) will play against 31-year-old Latvian – Anastasia Sevastova (70th WTA). Interestingly, in the third round, a Polish duel is possible: Christmas – Linette.

On the other hand, Magdalena Fręch (105th WTA) is facing an extremely difficult rival, because she was number one in the world ranking and two-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments (Roland Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019) – Romanian Simona Halep (15th WTA).
There are some very interesting duels in the women’s bracket in the first round – including: Raducanu – Stephens, Krejcikova – Petković, Benć – Mladenović or Kontaveit – Siniakova.
The rival of Hubert Hurkacz (10th ATP) in the first round will be Belarusian Egor Gerasimov (106th ATP). With this opponent, the Pole played twice in the US Open tournament and won both games: in qualifying in 2018 and last year in the first round.
Kamil Majchrzak will play against the experienced, 37-year-old Italian Andreas Seppi (98th ATP). These tennis players played against each other twice on grass courts. In 2017, Seppi was better in Turkey (2-0), and last year in Nottingham the Pole won 2-1.
Majchrzak is in the same part of the bracket as one of the best tennis players in the world – Rafael Nadal. He can play with the Spaniard in the fourth round of the tournament.
The Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament in 2022, will start on Monday, January 17.
