A former Academy Award-winning student accused him of stealing the idea from his original documentary All Winners, All Loserswhich has led to a lawsuit in Iran that is still pending.
“My film is not based on that documentary”Commented the director. “I believe that the matter will be clarified, I am sorry for these discontent“.
We recall that Farhadi counter-sued the woman, Azadeh Masihzadeh, accusing her of defamation, but the case was dismissed for “insufficient evidence”.
Masihzadeh says the director used the same idea and additional elements behind his documentary All Winners, All Losers inserting them inside the film A hero, presented in Cannes last year and winner of the Special Jury Grand Prix.
Farhadi is a member of the jury of the 2022 edition of the Cannes Film Festival chaired by the French actor Vincent Lindon (Titane). Next to them Rebecca Hall (The Town), Deepika Padukone (Chennai Express), Noomi Rapace (Lamb), Jasmine Trinca (The Gunman), Ladj Ly (Les Misérables), Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter) and Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World).
