The Journal of Nature Products published the results of a laboratory study that found cannabis compounds prevented the penetration of the coronavirus into healthy human cells.
Two compounds contained in cannabis are expected to be effective in the fight against Covid-19: cannabigerolic acid CBGA and cannabidiolic acid CBDA.
Cannabis game changer in the fight against Covid-19?
Scientists at Oregon State University found that the above-mentioned acids found in cannabis screening were identified as having the potential to fight the coronavirus. In studies, they bound to the spike proteins found in the virus and blocked the transmission of the virus.
Hemp is available in many foods, cosmetics and animal feed. The substance can also be taken orally in the form of, for example, oil or dietary supplements.
“These compounds can be taken orally and have a long history of safe use in humans,” said Richard van Breemen, researcher at the Oregon Global Cannabis Innovation Center, in his statement.
“They can prevent and treat SARS-CoV-2 infections,” he said.
