A1 Piotrków Trybunalski West – Tuszyn. The eastern carriageway of the motorway is opened for traffic

The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) on Friday opened the eastern carriageway of the A1 motorway between the Piotrków Trybunalski West and Tuszyn junctions in the Łódź Province. It is a 12-kilometer stretch towards Łódź. This means that from Piotrków to Gdańsk, drivers already have the entire width of the road at their disposal.

GDDKiA explained that the opening of the eastern roadway means that from the intersection with the S8 towards Łódź we will drive 12 kilometers of the motorway with three lanes, and in the opposite direction, two lanes will be available. “The full cross-section of the western road (to Częstochowa) will be available before the end of the year” – assured road workers.

Maciej Zalewski, a spokesman for the Łódź branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, pointed out that drivers from Piotrków Trybunalski to Gdańsk have the entire width of the road at their disposal. – To the Tuszyn junction three lanes each, then two lanes. Traffic in the opposite direction (on the section Tuszyn – Piotrków Trybunalski – ed.) Will continue to take place on two lanes – he explained. The reason will be work related to, inter alia, with the preparation of target road markings, repair of energy-intensive barriers and supplementation of acoustic screens.

A spokesman for the Lodz GDDKiA added that despite the width of the road, the motorway – due to the ongoing construction – is subject to a speed limit of 100 km / h. On the second road, towards Częstochowa and Katowice, the maximum speed is 70 km / h.

This is the second section of the A1 motorway under construction, where the main works have recently been completed and drivers have both lanes at their disposal. At the beginning of November this year. GDDKiA has commissioned the western carriageway of the A1 motorway at the junction of the Śląskie and Łódzkie provinces: a 7-kilometer section between Radomskie and the border of the Śląskie Province and another 6 kilometers from the border of the Łódź Province towards Częstochowa.

The next sections of A1

GDDKiA expects that another 3 kilometers of A1 will be put into use by mid-December this year. It is a section between the Piotrków Trybunalski West and Piotrków Trybunalski Południe junctions, where drivers will go along the entire width of the road in the direction of Łódź, and in the opposite direction – in two lanes. “In the next two weeks, the remaining lanes are to be made available and drivers will fully use the entire, nearly 16-kilometer section from Tuszyn to Piotrków Trybunalski” – added the announcement.

As reported, before the end of the year, similar changes in traffic organization are also planned in the Kamieńsk – Radomsko section. First, drivers are to use the new, three-lane road towards Częstochowa, and then also on the road towards Łódź. Soon, drivers will also use three lanes in the direction of Łódź on the 13-kilometer long section from Radomsko to Kruszyna in the Silesian Voivodeship, which has been made available as the first, in a dual carriageway section.

Also before the end of the year, the second road from Kruszyna to the beginning of the Częstochowa bypass will be made available, along with a second viaduct over the railway in the vicinity of the Częstochowa North junction. In this section, drivers will drive in three lanes towards Łódź, and then also towards Częstochowa.

This year, GDDKiA plans to commission the first fragment of the second road on the Piotrków Trybunalski – Kamieńsk section. Maciej Zalewski, a spokesman for the Łódź branch of GDDKiA, noted that if the weather did not thwart the contractors’ intentions, drivers should be given a 5-kilometer section of the western road from the Piotrków Trybunalski Południe junction towards Częstochowa.

– So this year, drivers on the A1 between Tuszyn and the Częstochowa bypass will have a total of nearly 56 kilometers of a dual carriageway route with three lanes in each direction – summed up Zalewski.

A1 motorway Tuszyn – Częstochowa

The ongoing construction of the A1 motorway between Tuszyn in the Łódź Voivodeship and Częstochowa is divided into five parts, four of which, with a total length of 64 km, run through the Łódź Voivodeship, and one through the Śląskie Voivodeship – 16.9 km. The entire new route will be ready at the turn of 2022 and 2023.

The total cost of construction works related to the reconstruction of over 80 km of old road sections, A1 from Tuszyn to Piotrków Trybunalski and DK1 from Piotrków Trybunalski to the beginning of the Częstochowa bypass, is over PLN 2.8 billion. Nearly PLN 1.7 billion is co-financing from the European Union funds under the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Program.
