SINGAPORE\ aise\ – It enjoys the patronage ofItalian Embassy in Singapore the concert “Long live Vivaldi! The Lost Operas” which will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 7.30 pm, at the SOTA Concert Hall 1 of Singapore.
Organized by Lirica Arts, the concert will see the works of the Italian Baroque master performed by Singapore’s premier Baroque orchestra, the Red Dot Baroque, led by award-winning violinist and concertmaster Alan Choo. On stage an international cast of opera singers: sopranos Cheng Szu Yun and Joyce Lee, mezzo-soprano Rebecca Chellappah, countertenor Chan Wei En, tenor Jonathan McPherson and baritone Martin Ng.
This will be the first time that an entire program of Vivaldi’s vocal music is presented in Singapore: the concert therefore represents a special occasion, which is part of the international “Vivaldi Renaissance” celebrations. The program already started in Europe several decades ago with the rediscovery of forgotten works, newly found manuscripts thought to be lost, and is now reaching Singapore.
Vivaldi is one of the best-known composers in Western classical music, and his Four Seasons are quite common on concert hall programs around the world. However in Singapore it is little known that Vivaldi was a virtuoso and prolific opera composer: he composed some 94 of them. (aise)
