While Baz Luhrmann enjoying the success of Elvis, the biopic with Austin Butler he wrote and directed, the director is also preparing to revisit Australia and draw from it a miniseries that will soon arrive on Disney +.
The new show titled Faraway Downs and consisting of six episodes will be an extended and revisited version of the 2008 film starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, starring a different ending and an updated soundtrack. The miniseries will arrive this winter on Hulu in the US, and on Disney + via Star in other countries.
“I originally wanted to overturn the notion of a rousing Gone with the Wind epic. [Volevo] find ways to use romance and epic drama to highlight the roles of First Nations people and the painful scar of the Stolen Generations in Australian history“declared the director”And while the film Australia has a life of its own, there remained yet another tale of this story; a more layered one, with more nuances, and even some alternative twists that the episodic format allowed us to explore. Starting from the same base material, Faraway Downs is a new variation of Australia which is up to the public to find out now“.
“Baz is one of the greatest authorial storytellers in the world, so revisiting his incredible film Australia in this unique and innovative episodic format with Faraway Downs was truly a revelatory adventure.“said Craig Erwich, President of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment”We can’t wait to take our viewers to the ranch and let them experience all the stories it already contained and continue to emerge from there.“.
