Bakery Jatta from HSV Hamburg charged with false identity – 2nd Bundesliga

The footballer was charged with four violations of immigration law and one related to the delivery of false documents by proxy.

German prosecutors said on Monday that Bakery Jatta, who signed with HSV in 2016, is actually called Bakary Daffeh. According to them, the player is two and a half years older than his declared age of 23.

The contestant denies the allegations

Jatta’s attorney told DPA that his client “has clearly proven his identity” and will file for the case to be dismissed.

Prosecutors said Jatta had arrived in Germany in 2015 without a passport and gave his date of birth which meant he was under 18. Therefore, he was classified as a refugee child, subject to additional legal protection.

In the current season, he played in all 16 games of HSV in the second German league, scoring two goals. In the previous one he played in 27 games (5 goals).

According to prosecutors, Jatta previously played for various African clubs under the name of Daffeh, and obtained Gambian papers under a new name upon arrival in Germany.
