The Flash’s Neal McDonoug and Riverdale’s Casey Cott join the cast of sports drama Black Spartanswhich was written and directed by Ben Cory Jones.

The film, which will see them as protagonists, will go into production next fall, and will take us to the mid-1960s, when social upheaval paved the way for a slew of novelties in college football. This will be Jones’s first feature film, best known for his work on the HBO series Insecure, which was ordered in 2015 and ran for five seasons. Black Spartans will talk about the first fully integrated college football team. The film is in fact inspired by the Michigan State Spartans team, coached by Duffy Daugherty, who changed the face of this sport forever. Filming will take place in Atlanta.

After the Riverdale 6 season finale, Casey Cott is ready to return to our screens with the last season of the show and with this film. This is definitely not his first film. The actor was recently seen opposite Vanessa Hudgens and Kiersey Clemons in the Paramount and Saban Films thriller Asking for It, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
