Indigenous Canadians often rely on water treatment plants to end poor and contaminated water supplies, despite Canada being rich in water. “Access to drinking water it is a basic human right. Canada is home to more than 20 percent of the planet’s fresh water, an abundance envied around the world. There is absolutely no reason why indigenous communities shouldn’t have access to clean and safe water.” Reynolds said in a note. The actor praised Water First for helping ensure that indigenous communities in need of safe and sustainable water supplies can convince young and skilled local technicians to manage treatment plants or monitor unsafe water. “Everyone involved, whether they manage water systems or monitor their local water bodies, are critical. We appreciate Water First’s focus on supporting Indigenous young adults to become certified water operators and environmental technicians. These people are helping to ensure sustainable access to safe and clean water locally, now and for the future. Blake and I are thrilled to support this important work,” the actor added. Spencer WellingWasauksing First Nation Water First intern said: “I am doing this for myself, my family and my community. It’s important to know how things are done and it gives you a better appreciation for it. This is a good career for me, I’m sure my parents would be happy with it. It’s also nice to know that my community will have a local water treatment operator at the facility for at least a couple of decades.”
