CIES: Top rated U-23 players from the top European leagues

Statisticians from CIES Football Observatory have compiled lists of the highest valued players under 23, who play in top European leagues.

The players were divided into six groups: goalkeepers, center-backs, side-backs, defensive midfielders, offensive midfielders and attackers.

The valuations were based on an algorithm developed by CIES. According to him, three U-23 players can change clubs for at least 150 million euros. It is about Erling Braut Haaland (Borussia Dortmund), Vinícius Júnior (Real Madrid) and Phil Foden (Manchester City). For example, the name of Kylian Mbappé (Paris Saint-Germain) has “only” 80 million euros. This is mainly the result of the French forward’s contract expiring in just six months.

Each of them was in the group of attackers. Gianluigi Donnarumma (EUR 80 million), Eric García and Joško Gvardiol (EUR 80 million), Alphonso Davies (EUR 120 million), Jude Bellingham (EUR 120 million), Florian Wirtz and Pedri (EUR 140 million) are the top players in other positions.

17 of the 60 mentioned players play in the Premier League, 14 – in the Bundesliga, 12 – in the Spanish league, 10 – in the Ligue 1 and seven – in Serie A.

When it comes to clubs, Bayer has the most representatives – six. Then there are Barcelona (five) and Chelsea (four).
