confirmed the release date of the film with Margot Robbie

Not even two years after the previous one The French Dispatch (which was scheduled for 2020 and then released a year later due to the coronavirus pandemic), we are about to see Wes Anderson again on the big screen with his new effort: Asteroid City, which as usual boasts a stellar cast made up of loyalists and newcomers. That’s when it’s out!

With just over a year left to finish production on the project, Focus Features has announced that Wes Anderson’s new film will be released next summer. Asteroid Citydefined as a romantic drama, was scheduled for a limited theatrical release on June 16, 2023while the more extensive release is planned for the next June 23rd. Universal Pictures will handle international distribution of the film.

According to the official synopsis from Focus Features, Asteroid City it will be a poetic meditation on the meaning of life. It will tell the story of an imaginary American town in the desert, circa 1955, and its Junior Stargazer convention. The event brings together students and parents from across the country for academic competition, rest/recreation, comedy, drama, romance and more.

It is the first time that Tom Hanks and Margot Robbie work with Anderson. As previously mentioned, they reunite with writer-director Tilda Swinton, Edward Norton and Adrien Brody, as well as Jason Schwartzman, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Wright and Fisher Stevens. Asteroid City rounds out its cast with an outstanding ensemble, which includes Bryan Cranston, Hong Chau, Hope Davis, Matt Dillon, Jeff Goldblum, Maya Hawke, Scarlett Johansson, Rupert Friend, Grace Edwards, Ethan Lee, Sophia Lillis, Stephen Park, Tony Revolori, Liev Schreiber and Rita Wilson.

Asteroid City, however, he will find himself facing weighty and highly anticipated films in those same weeks of release. The film opens on the same day that Warner Bros. intends to distribute its next cinecomic, The Flash. One week later, the film will collide with Indiana Jones and the wheel of fate of Disney. Two blockbusters among the most eagerly awaited in recent years, in short, against the independent film of an established author. It won’t be an easy challenge.
