In the lyrics of “substance“, she questions the liquidity and exhaustion caused by the contemporary world. Last month, Lovato posted a video saying she was excited to release the song and that “maybe” this is her favorite track from the new album. With no makeup or filters, she said: “It’s a song about how we live in a world that lacks content, where there are so many false, pointless things that we focus on in our daily lives.”.
demi also made a self-criticism at the time: “I’ve been thinking to myself ‘how am I missing content?’ and maybe what I post on social media is the image of me that I put… it lacks content. I’m not talking to you guys about stuff, I’m just posting pretty pictures.”.
This Friday (15), the singer intends to fulfill an interview schedule, starting with a participation in the presenter’s program Jimmy Kimmel.
