The details of the circumstances that will bring Garland back into the stories of Law & Order: Special Unit are not shared at the moment. Last time, in the double opening episode of season 23, the character quit his job after being ostracized by the boss, Tommy McGrath (Terry Serpico), for talking about police misconduct during a controversial case. McGrath had then temporarily assumed the role of commander of the Special Victims Unit after Garland’s resignation.
