Accepted by players, Battlefield 2042 has just debuted, and Electronic Arts (the publisher of the game) is already making plans for the future of the series. Most importantly, from now Vince Zampella, co-founder of the studio Respawn Entertainment, will oversee the next installments of the cycle after leaving Fawzi Mesmar Former Design Manager at EA DICE. In an interview for GameSpot, Zampella announced that the new goal of electronics is to create a functioning universe Battlefieldthat will be developed by studios located in both the USA and Europe:
We will continue to develop Battlefield 2042, while discovering new types of experiences and business models that we can add to this brand to provide our players with even more amazing experiences. This universe is connected by common characters and narratives. It is also built with our community as we harness the power of Portal Mode and user-generated content that puts creativity in the hands of players.
In addition to his new position, Zampella will continue to fulfill her previous management responsibilities at Respawn. They oversee the development of Apex Legends and other unannounced studio projects, one of which is most likely a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
Additionally, Oskar Gabrielson, CEO of the EA DICE team, is also leaving to pursue a new venture outside of EA’s brands. He will be replaced by Rebecka Coutazwho previously was the manager of the Ubisoft Annecy studio (responsible, among others, for the recent Riders Republic).
Interestingly, Marcus Lehto, a man who has, among others, Master Chief’s design from the series Hello it is now creating a brand new band in Seattlewhich will focus on implementing more narratives into future titles from the universe Battlefield and subsequent seasons Battlefield 2042. Ripple Effect Studios, responsible for the Portal mode, will take care of adding new content to it.
Additionally, EA is planning to increase the number of developers looking after the cycle Battlefield. Both DICE and Ripple Effect Studios and the mysterious Lehto studio will be working on improvement Battlefield 2042, for other projects from the universe that are currently being created BF are intended to serve as specific extensions of it. One of them is most likely aimed at Battlefield Mobile devices, but who knows, maybe we’ll even get a full-fledged strategy Battlefield or potential Bad Company 3?
