Until now, the Fiat Tipo Cross was available only as a hatchback that could compete with the Kia Xceed, Mazda CX-30 or the already mentioned Ford Focus Active. However, Fiat finally decided on a more practical SW edition, in which it combined “off-road” features with a station wagon.
Thanks to this, the Italian compact can finally throw the gauntlet to the Volkswagen group. Maybe not literally, as it is of course a more budget proposition. It is possible, however, that many people will treat Fiat as a cheaper alternative to the segment supported by more expensive players.
The Tipo Cross SW features 17-inch rims, black wheel arch protectors and 7 cm more ground clearance than the standard Tipo SW. The wheelbase is the same as the standard station wagon – it is 2638 mm, and the length is 4583 mm – 197 mm more than in the hatchback. The boot is also larger – 110 liters to be exact.
We still have to wait for the official specification, but it is no secret that the base is a 1.0 gasoline engine with 100 HP. There will also be a diesel 1.6 Multijet with 130 HP. As announced, a soft hybrid will also complement the range. Prices remain the most mysterious issue.
You have to spend PLN 90,100 for the Cross version with a hatchback body. The station wagon will probably be a bit more expensive. We should get to know the details in the coming months. Interestingly, a special RED edition will also be included in the price list. Inside you will find recycled materials. There is also a special color scheme. In addition to red, you can also choose black, white and gray. We should get to know more details soon.
