Thor’s famous hammer Mjolnir first appeared in the post-credits scene of Iron Man 2. The artifact is found in the New Mexico desert by S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg). The scene in question presented the first concrete indication of the hero’s presence in the MCU.

THOR (2011)

The following year, Thor starred in his first solo film. In this story, we are introduced to Asgard and the hero, a foolish and reckless prince whose evil deeds culminate in a new war between his people and the Frost Giants.

Disappointed with Thor’s arrogance, Odin (Anthony Hopkins), king of Asgard and father of the protagonist, exiles him to Earth.

Already on our planet, the god of thunder needs to learn valuable lessons to finally become able to wield Mjolnir again. The weapon is now protected by an enchantment, and can only be used by those who are truly worthy. Meanwhile, his half-brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) discovers he is the biological son of Laufey, the leader of the Frost Giants, and plots to take the throne of Asgard.

Facing Loki’s advances, Thor proves himself worthy and regains Mjolnir and Odin’s trust. Back in Asgard, his girlfriend on Earth, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), plans to open a portal to her beloved’s realm.

The Avengers is the movie that introduces the famous superhero team to the MCU. The plot continues exploring the villainy of Loki who, after falling into a wormhole at the end of Thor (2011), plans to attack Earth at the behest of Thanos (Josh Brolin).

The Mad Titan gives Loki a powerful scepter, capable of controlling the minds and actions of his enemies – an artifact that we later discover carries the Mind Stone, the source of its power. Now, Thor’s brother is on a mission to steal the Tesseract (Space Stone) from SHIELD and deliver it to Thanos.

It is in this feature that the Battle of New York takes place, in which Loki is defeated. He fails in his mission and is taken into custody back to Asgard by Thor, who is a member of the Avengers Initiative.

In this movie, we discover more details about the history of Asgard. In the past, Bor (Tony Curran), Odin’s father, defeated the army of Dark Elves led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) when they planned to use the incredibly powerful substance Aether to return the universe to its original form: a complete darkness.

Over the course of the plot, Jane Foster accidentally comes into contact with the Aether, which was hidden by Bor years ago. Thor finds the scientist and, knowing that she is a host of the substance, decides to take his beloved to Asgard in an attempt to reverse the situation.

Jane’s actions eventually awaken Malekith and his right-hand man Algrim (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), who set out in search of the Aether to destroy the Nine Realms. Arriving in Asgard, they kill Frigga (Rene Russo), Thor’s mother, who had been protecting Jane since her arrival in the realm.

With a thirst for revenge, Thor and Jane team up with Loki to stop Malekith from completing his plans. With the help of Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), the trio defeats the villain.

The Ether, which we later discover to be the Reality Gem in liquid form, is taken by Volstagg and Sif to the Collector (Benicio del Toro), as the duo finds it unwise to keep another Infinity Gem – besides the Tesseract – stored in Asgard.

Thor decides to return to Earth and Loki, despite having helped his brother defeat the leader of the Dark Elves, continues to cheat in his greed for the throne of Asgard.

With the fall of SHIELD in Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), HYDRA recovered Loki’s scepter – the one that carries the Mind Stone -, used by the villain in The Avengers (2012). In possession of the powerful artifact and under the leadership of Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann), HYDRA began to carry out experiments on humans – among them, the twins Pietro (Aaron Johnson) and Wanda Maximoff (Elisabeth Olsen).

After a confrontation between the Avengers and Wanda, Thor worries about the apocalyptic visions that the future Scarlet Witch revealed during her mental forays. The god of thunder decides to depart from the team in search of answers and, with the help of Erik Selvig, has a prophetic insight into the Infinity Stones, Ragnarok, and Thanos’ intentions.

In parallel, after the team of superheroes attack HYDRA and recover the scepter, they discover that it also hides a very advanced artificial intelligence. And it is she who ends up giving rise to Ultron (James Spader), who acquires consciousness and decides that the planet will only be saved after the annihilation of the human race.

Ultron follows through on his plan, and begins building an army of robots and a perfect body for himself, with the unwitting help of Dr. Helen Cho (Claudia Kim). However, when Wanda realizes Ultron’s evil intentions, she frees Dr. Cho dominates her and prevents her from completing the upload of Ultron into the syntozoid.

The Avengers end up rescuing the synthetic body and, with the help of Thor, motivated by recent revelations, create the Vision (Paul Bettany) – the junction of a part of Ultron with the JARVIS operating system and the Soul Stone gives life to the super- hero.

After Ultron’s defeat, Thor worries even more about the appearance of the Infinity Stones and the danger they could pose to Earth, and leaves the planet to try to unravel the mystery behind it.

Thor reappears in a post-credits scene of Stephen Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) feature, revealing that he is in search of Odin. Doctor Strange questions him about Loki’s intentions, and promises to help the thunder god find his father, as long as everyone returns to Asgard.

Back in Asgard, Thor finds Loki taking Odin’s place. Determined to rescue his lost father, Doctor Strange fulfills his promise and helps him discover the King’s whereabouts.

The god of thunder finds her father on the brink of death, and Odin reveals that after his departure, his daughter Hela (Cate Blanchett) will be free from exile and ready to take the throne of Asgard.

Thor teams up with his foster brother once again, and they battle the powerful villain, who even destroys the hammer Mjolnir. In the first confrontation, Thor ends up being exiled on Sakaar, a distant and hostile planet.

There, he meets Hulk and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). With the help of the duo and new tricks from Loki, the son of Odin manages to escape and faces Hela again. It is in this confrontation that Thor loses an eye and the events of Ragnarok bring Asgard to an end. Part of his people manage to survive, but Thanos, who had already appeared in the post-credits scene of Age of Ultron, manages to intercept the ship carrying the Asgardians.

The directions of the Infinity Saga get even more explicit and complex in this film, and Thor and Hulk warn the Avengers about Thanos’ intentions. Superheroes from all corners unite against the Mad Titan, in an attempt to prevent him from gathering the six Infinity Stones and, with the gauntlet, destroying half of the living beings in the universe.

When Thanos takes the Tesseract, the Space Stone, Loki tries to stop him, and ends up being killed by the villain.

The long has many details that are essential for understanding the conclusion of the saga that we see in Avengers: Endgame (2019). However, for the Thor arc, one of the most memorable and unfortunate moments happens when the god of thunder is face to face with Thanos, and launches Stormbreaker, his new hammer, into the villain’s chest to kill him.

Certain of the completion of his objective, he glares at Thanos as he says, “You should have ripped my head off.” Soon after, he snaps his fingers with his gauntlet and succeeds in his evil plan, turning half the universe to dust.

Here we find a “broken” Thor, who has surrendered his physical and psychological to a meaningless life, overcome with guilt for having been unable to stop Thanos’ actions. The god of thunder survived the snap, but he never forgave himself for seeing T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman), Groot (Vin Diesel), Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and so many others cease to exist.

But Hulk and Rocket, who also survived, find the Asgardian and recruit him to go back in time, retrieve the gems and reverse Thanos’ damage.

Thor is still very insecure and disbelieving, however, when he and Rocket perform the time jump to retrieve the Reality Stone, he sees his late mother Frigga again. The reunion, which marks one of the most emotional passages in the MCU, reminds Thor of his true potential as a hero.

During the journey, Thor still manages to exact revenge on the Mad Titan, finally ripping his head off. Afterwards, it’s impossible to forget about the Hulk bringing everyone back to life, the great final battle and Tony Stark’s sacrifice, which puts an end to Thanos.

At the conclusion of Endgame, Thor joins the Guardians of the Galaxy and, after hundreds of years, he finally sets out on a “no plans” adventure. New Asgard, home on Earth for refugees from the realm of the thunder god, is now ruled by Valkyrie.

In Thor: Love and Thunder, we’ll find out what happened to the hero after traveling with the Guardians of the Galaxy, the fate of New Asgard and many other surprises.

The film will show the protagonist on a journey unlike anything he has ever faced: he is on a quest for inner peace. However, his retirement is interrupted by a galactic assassin known as Gorr the Butcher of the Gods (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the deities. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), who, to Thor’s surprise, inexplicably carries Mjolnir, like the Mighty One. Thor. Together, they embark on a mind-bending adventure to uncover the mystery of the Butcher of the Gods’ revenge and stop him before it’s too late.

In addition to bringing Korg to life, Waititi also directs the production. James Gunn, director of The Suicide Squad (2021), serves as a consultant for the feature. In Brazil, the premiere of Thor: Love and Thunder takes place on July 7, exclusively in theaters – guarantee your pre-sale ticket through our website or app.
