Fiorentina-Cremonese: Foco’s tactical analysis

In the aftermath of the Viola’s first game of the season, won not without difficulty against Cremonese, Foco tactically analyzes the challenge between the Italian team and that of Alvini in the first appointment with his new column

There Cremonese seems to be the softest possible start for the Fiorentina. A newly promoted formation, which has been missing for a long time from Serie A, lacking, at first glance, evident talents. Fiorentina is back from an exciting championship, driven by ambitious game intentions and with new arrivals in line with the desire of the purple people to get even closer to the best. What could go wrong?

TRAINING. Italian amazes with the initial formation that sees owners Benassiin the role of right back, e Kouame instead of Nico / Ikoné. Jovic And Gollini are the holders in attack and in goal, while Thin And Maleh they had been widely expected from the first minute.

Alvinifor its part, responds with a formation that includes two role points together with Zanimacchiaauthor of an excellent championship of B as an attacking winger.

THE MATCH. Italian with Benassi chooses to have fewer offensive overlaps, not least because Kouame, in addition to being more forward than winger, has the task of playing very vertically, entering a little in the middle of the field, which does not free up the space that allows the full-back to attack the back line. There are also fewer exchanges full-back / inside / winger on the right wing but this lack gives a Bonaventure the ability to float between midfield and attack, often in a real attacking midfield position. There Cremonese defends with three backs, raises the two full backs on the midfield line and positions Zanimacchia behind the two tips. This line-up, which at first glance might seem ultra defensive, has, on the other hand, the task of going to take the Fiorentina on the first construction.

The two points, in fact, go to mark the two central ones while Zanimacchia takes Amrabat and the beginning of the low dribble of the Viola makes it rise, depending on which side it begins to develop, Sernicola or Ghiglione. In the plans of Alviniin case of regaining the ball, the Cremonese would already have at least four men capable of attacking the door of Gollini. The result of the clash between these game intentions leads to a match in which the two midfield departments lose all construction responsibilities, attacking or trying to close based on the inertia of the actions.

The higher technical quality of the Fiorentina allows her to give the first sganassone, taking advantage of a strange moment of the game in which both teams seem to wait for the referee’s whistle for a foul on Maleh. The referee’s invitation to play allows a Bonaventure a one-on-one central percussion quite slow but misread by the grigiorossa defensive line, which does not rise leaving aa Kouame the time to receive the ball and try the breakthrough in the area. There Cremonese does not recover the correct positioning and the Ivorian can close the triangle with Jackwho left on the net. All too easy and all very slow. And all for the bad interpretation of the Cremonese midfield that remains too high.

But the lack of midfield, this time in the construction, also hurts Fiorentina. From an attempt at Martinez Quarta to serve directly from its trocar Jovic centrally, the restart is born that brings the grigiorossi to a quick draw. In this case, the three purple midfielders are cut off at the start because the passage from the fourth arrives while the department was climbing. The transition from the ball recovery of the defense to the midfield is free from obstacles and allows Cremonese to exploit the width with Ghiglione in conduction e Sernicola to keep off Benassi. The strikers are one-on-one with the purple center-backs (defending backwards) and the great header by Okereke is facilitated by the impossibility of doubling.

The quality of the Fiorentina allows her to take the lead again with a cat pearl from the penalty area of Jovic after a good action in lateral conduction from the left but the Cremonese she never leaves the game, not even when the exclusively aggressive function of her midfield leads her to remain in ten. Why does this happen? Why the Fiorentina fails to take over the game definitively? Always due to the nature of his game choice. The lack of dribbling in midfield prevents possession from being technically managed correctly and the absence of men capable of occupying half positions opens up unattended spaces which are occupied by the red and gray players, facilitating the coverage of the field for the formation of Alvini. Fiorentina builds something, it’s true, but too often remains exposed to pressure on the low construction. Which allows the Cremonese to maintain a sufficiently high center of gravity and, therefore, to cling to the match until the error of Raduat 95 ‘.

THE CONCLUSION. Taking into account every extenuating circumstance, including the “experimental” training, there is still a file to work in some things and a rasp in others. Italiano is trying to expand the range of playing possibilities of his team and one of his attempts concerns the possibility of having an inside that acts as a playmaker as much as possible.. With the Cremonese Bonaventure he often acted centrally, behind Jovic, also going to score in that position. However, this move together with the aggression movement of Malehvery vertical, on the opposite side, left quite alone Amrabatpenalized by too dilated distances with his comrades in the department.

Fiorentina are looking for balance and will probably find it later. A help could give it Dodowho coming a lot in the middle of the field, could go to cover the position left uncovered by Bonaventure (or who for him) when he goes to support Jovic. The good thing is that regardless of who plays the message remains to try to dominate the game and with the Cremonese it was particularly received by the two wings, who responded very well to the coach’s request to have a greater impact on the game.
