In mid-October, the coach of the German ski jumping team, Stefan Horngacher, was asked by a journalist from the German DPA agency quoted by the “Augsburger Allgemeine” daily about the situation of Freitag, who returned to the top jumping competition in the summer. “He is not considered a candidate for the A-team,” the coach revealed.

It must therefore be admitted: Freitag is in the middle of the biggest crisis of his career. The last podium of the World Cup is a distant memory for him from almost three years ago. In his last start of the series, he scored World Cup points and was in 27th position, but in his ten previous starts he did not make it to the competition or the second series.

The DPA agency asked Freitag if he was thinking of ending his career. – Not. In a broader sense, you have to think about it sometime, but put it off as far as I can at the moment. For now, I will continue my start in the FIS Cup – said the jumper.

In 2018 Freitag won silver with the German team at the Olympics in Pyeongchang, and a year later won gold at the world championship in Seefeld. In the World Cup, he has eight victories and 23 podium places.
